Twelve Ordinary Men

  1. Why I read this book? My study Bible is a MacArthur Bible. So, I saw his book he had written and I decided to read it.
  2. What did I learn from reading this book? I got a better understanding of what kind of men the twelve disciples were. I further discovered how Jesus molded and shaped these twelve men for greatness over a 3 year period. Many Christians become discouraged and disheartened in our spirt life because of failure or sin. We tend to think we are worthless nobodies and left to ourselves, that would be true! But worthless nobodies are just the kind of people God uses. These twelve disciples were unrefined, not priests, and uneducated. They were essentially nothing. But Jesus made them the first preachers of the new covenant. They were the foundation stones of the church, with Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20). The disciples were just like us. They struggled with pride and arrogance like every human being. But the driving passion of their lives became the glory of Christ. These apostles represented the new leaders of the true Israel of God. In the end, the twelve were personally selected and called by Christ. He knew them as only their Creator could know them (John 6:70). Eleven of these men shared a passion, devoted their lives to it and triumphed in it against overwhelming opposition. They are fitting heroes and role models for us, despite their shortcomings. To read this book, you get to know the men who were closest to Christ during His earthly life.
  3. How will this book contribute to my success upon release? I will not judge people like I used too. God puts each of us on this earth for a purpose to serve Him. I will seek deeper to find what my true purpose is!
