by Pastor Tony Evans
Pastor Evans utilizes the seven churches in the Book of Revelation to help narrate his point about overcoming as a Christian. Our lives are full of all types of challenges seeking to defeat us — difficulties, problems, sin — and many of us find ourselves unable to deal with them. I have come up short many times because my effort wasn’t sufficient to overcome my troubles. Do you ever feel defeated? I do. But each time I look why I am defeated I have to look no further than the closest mirror. I simply have done what’s necessary to overcome my struggle. The good news is I reestablished my connection over five years ago with God, He has given me the tools necessary to overcome any situation now. I still do fall short in recognizing God’s provision for my life because I do allow my pride to get in the way. Thus, I allow the problems to occupy too much of my time. Instead, I should spend the time I wasted by praying and reading the scriptures to look for the solution besides allowing Michael to take the lead. The Bible is full of overcomers from Job to Joseph we can learn a lot from those who have come before us. The good thing about their stories is there is always somewhere we can apply the scripture to our lives. The key is to ask God to reveal it to us and put the work in to overcome our troubles.
I have a part to play as an overcomer. The way I play my part determines much of what I will experience in this life. I will continue to submit myself to God during trials to become a better Christian, husband, father, and person.
