by Greg Laurie
What did I learn from the book? The book is written for someone who has lost a loved one or struggling in life. Pastor Laurie shares his struggle with losing his son. When we lose someone you ever noticed our first question to God is, Why? But the bottom line is simply this: Our lives are in His hands, and we must trust him. When we find ourselves going through deep waters and times of disappointment and grief, He weeps with us, too. He cares about us. If it hurts you, it hurts Him. These trials and hardships give the believer a platform from which they can give witness to their faith in Christ. Why? Because we are actually living it out in the real world.
I have noticed there’s something about nighttime that amplifies my problems. Have you ever noticed that? When I get ready to go to sleep, my problems can suddenly crowd in on me and seem about ten times bigger and darker and more frightening than they really are. Those nights I find myself praying more and more. This is a time to commit heavy weights, burdens, and sorrows to the Lord. God is in control of our lives whether it’s daylight or dark, whether we are feeling on top of the world or if life has hit us like a ton of bricks. Regardless of the situation, we must give thanksgiving to God.
How will I use this book in the future? When I speak to lost souls, I will tell them the only relevant question on the day we die is the one God asks: “What did you do with My Son Jesus Christ, whom I sent to die on the cross for you?” God has given us the way into Heaven. But it’s up to us to embrace that way. The hard truth: If you end up in hell, you will be there because you rejected His incredible offer of forgiveness.
