- Why did I read this book? It was a book I found in the religious section of the library. It is written by Jack Graham.
- What did I learn? CS Lewis wrote, “You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death to you.” That is so true in life, especially when someone passes away. We finally grasp the concept that life is but a vapor. The things we thought were important suddenly become irrelevant. As I ponder, I rack up life experiences and dimly issue discernment, I have started to see the world for what it really is. The good, the bad, the evil, the powers that be, the forces that have pushed and pulled positioning and angling for a hold on my mind, my soul, and my life. Still, I find myself learning and asking God to bring into focus all that blurs. And, he does. I am seeing what I did not see before.
Pride really does go before a fall, and it has rightly been said that the shortest definition of any sin – pride included- is “I Will.” I will go my own way. I will do my own thing. The thing I have realized is the devil desires our heart to rebel against God. This happens when we detach from God and attach to ourselves. The enemy of our soul seeks to divide, to divert, to deny, twist, destroy, and kill. In Jesus is our peace, that we may not be overcome. When we feel helpless, standing in the face of too big, too daunting circumstances, we must remember that it is actually God who does our fighting for us. Sin is a seductive power. Be still, I will fight for you (Exodus 14:14). And the devil needs only a tiny crack to get a foothold in our lives. One thing I have learned… when God is in our lives and we live daily in a relationship with him, we live victoriously. The only way to approach the spiritual battle each day, is through devoted and heartfelt prayer and time spent with God.
You ever notice Satan strikes when we’re attempting something great for God? You ever notice you hear those statements like: God won’t provide for you, He won’t protect you, He will not bring you satisfaction, or He won’t bring you love, or hope, or peace. You’re better off taking matters into your own hands. Every time I take matters in my own hands I mess it up. Satan introduces doubt, which leads to fear, to confusion, which leads to pain.
When our minds and own outlook are focused on Jesus and on Him alone. we are protected. Salvation reminds us that even the most unfortunate circumstances can’t change the fact that our lives are eternally secure in Christ.
- How will I use this book to help me in the future? I want to lead people to Christ. I want them to know there are angels, satan, hell, and heaven. The narrow path isn’t easy, but it is the most rewarding.
