- Why I read the book: I wanted to read something that would open my eyes to a whole new way of living. Pride got me into the predicament I am in and only through humbling myself will I dig my way out. The book is written by Andrew Murray.
- What did I learn from reading the book? In heaven and on earth, pride or self-exaltation is the gateway to hell. Jesus came to earth to bring humility back to earth to save us. Christ’s humility became our salvation. His salvation is our humility. I think it is best said by Thomas Aquinas. He said, “If you are looking for an example of humility, look at the cross.” It is amazing Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient to death. This book made me realize the only hope of decreasing self is by increasing Christ in my life. In John 8:42, Jesus proclaims, “I have not come on my own; but He sent me.” Can you imagine being sent to a place to only suffer and die? I should be a vessel for God to fill I shouldn’t have any room for pride or self. Humility is the secret of blessing for the heavenly and the earthly life. We get our pride from Adam; and we get our humility from Christ. Pride rules in us with incredible power; it is ourselves, our very nature. Humility must become ours in the same way. The humble person feels no jealousy or envy. Humility is nothing but the disappearance of self in the vision that God is all. Jesus reveals to us that it is indeed price that makes faith impossible. Faith is the means by which we perceive and apprehend the heavenly world and its blessings. And, faith seeks the glory that comes when God is all. Pride renders faith impossible. To have faith we seek, we must let self die completely. it is in the death to self that humility is perfected. True humility will manifest itself in daily life. The one who has it will take the form of a servant. Can you imagine if we had to do this by ourselves?
- How will the book contribute to my success upon release? I learned a lot more about humility by reading this book. I will be applying the lessons learned in this book in my everyday life. It takes more to be a servant than a leader. My whole life i have been a leader and its time for me to be a servant. I want my blessings not here on earth but in heaven. My pride has been my downfall with everything that has went wrong in my life. Over the last four years, I have been living differently by humbling myself. I will continue to do that the rest of my life. I don’t have to be in charge to have a happy life. I intend on being more humble to my family and friends but mostly to my wife. She deserves my respect and willingness to serve her needs. Lastly, I want to be more like Christ and be a vessel for him to fill each day.
I encourage you to read this book. I hope you have a blessed week.
Man, I hate what you’re going through. But you are sharing the foundation of Salvation
Sounds like an excellent read. I think humility is one the most lacking character traits missing in the world today.
What a great word, very inspiring and encouraging. Michael you are an inspiration
Benjamin Franklin once said, show me a man that that has never made a mistake and I’ll show you a fool. That is so true. Unfortunately the lessons we learn best are the result of having made a mistake. We’ve all made them, some are just more public than others. I’m proud you are still driving to learn from your mistake.
Mike when i read this Luke 14:11 was the first scripture that popped in my head .Satan fills our heads with thoughts of more more more will make us happier and bring us joy but true happiness and joy only comes through Christ and satan knows that. Christ is all we need!
Keep it coming Mike this is a blessing to my heart and soul.
