by Max Lucado
This book by Max Lucado parallels our life to that of Jacob’s. Jacob has a not so great resume. He married two sisters but loved only one. He was passive while his wives squabbled. He slept with their maids. His family worshiped foreign gods. He chose not to do anything when his daughter was raped and his sons went Commando on a village, slaughtering a tribe. His oldest son had an affair with his maidservant. His favorite son was sold into slavery by his brothers. Jacob was never a preacher, prophesied, or said anything worthy of being framed. The sad thing is if you are looking for an actor to play a lead role in a Hallmark movie you would not select Jacob. But, on the other hand, we see God’s devotion to Jacob. How could God use such a person whose halo definitely had slipped? God used Jacob in spite of Jacob like He can use me or you in spite of our selfish pride. We have to surrender. Have you ever witnessed such grace? I think grace is one of God’s greatest gifts to us; that He would treat us according to His heart not ours. All we have to do is trust God in all aspects of our lives. What is stopping you today?
