More Than a Carpenter

by Josh and Sean McDowell

This is a very interesting book it gives numerous details proving Jesus was born, died resurrected and saved us. Religion is humans trying to work their way to God through good works. Christianity is God coming to men and women through Jesus Christ. Why was the Jews so against Jesus? I think the reason is that those Jewish religious leaders didn’t claim to be God like Jesus. In fact we see time again in the Bible Jesus made people mad by speaking the truth. Even today the mere name of Jesus embarrasses, makes people angry, or makes them want to change the subject. The name Jesus is derived from the Greek form of the name Jeshua or Joshua, meaning Jehovah — Savior or “the Lord saves.” The title affirms Jesus as the promised priest and King of the Old Testament prophesies. The New Testament clearly presents Christ as God. Then, you have others that regard Jesus not as God bus as a good, moral man or as an exceptionally wise prophet who spoke many profound truths. Who do you say He is?

“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your should, and all your mind” (Matthew 22:36-37). The problem with many people is that they seem to love God with their hearts only. The truth about Christ never gets to their minds. We’ve been given minds enabled by the Holy Spirit to know God, as well as hearts to love Him and wills to choose Him.

Did you know? The Old Testament contains sixty major messianic prophecies and approximately 270 ramifications that were fulfilled in one person –Jesus Christ. Lets look at one of those prophecies. “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel” (Genesis 3:15). The prophecy could only refer to one man in all of scripture. No other but Jesus could be referred to as the “seed” of a woman. All others born in history come from the seed of man.

Jesus came to change lives. He alone can fulfill the greatest prophesy of all for those who will accept it — the promise of new life: “I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you” (Ezekiel 36:26). This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun (2 Corinthians 5:17).
